Apache Portals Meetup - Amsterdam, the Netherlands

April 7th, 2008 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm

The Apache Portals Meetup brings together users, committers and enthousiasts from Apache Pluto, Jetspeed, Bridges and WSRP4J and other related projects. Portals have many advantages, which is why they have become the de facto standard for Web application delivery. In fact, analysts have predicted that portals will become the next generation for the desktop environment. Portals distinguish themselves from other software systems because they provide the ability to integrate disparate systems and leverage the functionality provided by those systems. As such, they are not mutually exclusive, and do not force you into an either-or decision vis-a-vis existing software systems. Meet the people behind the JSR-168 and JSR-286 Portlet specifications. Are you already working with portals? Or just interested? Join us! This Meetup will be organized as a low-barrier community driven event and is free to attend. We will have a room and essential infrastructure (wireless network, free drinks) within or nearby the same building as where the ApacheCon is held to organize our mini-conference about anything of interest for the Apache Portals Community. April 8th, 2008 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm

As a Java developer working on web applications, you've probably heard about the latest kid on the block from the Apache community: Apache Wicket. With proper mark-up/logic separation, a POJO data model, and a refreshing lack of XML, Apache Wicket makes developing web-apps simple and enjoyable again. Swap the boilerplate, complex debugging and brittle code for powerful, reusable components written with plain Java and HTML. You are invited to join us at the second Amsterdam Wicket meetup. The meetup is in an informal setting, with over 30 attendees already, and will give you some fast-paced insight in what Wicket exactly is and how to use it. I chose it so we could spend some time at the drink that is sponsored by Athos and have some time to actually get to the restaurant afterward. [edit]Elise has been very active, she has found us sponsors for the drinks and 30 dishes (to be divided amongst those who come). Een greep uit het rijke programma:

Second Life

Claudia L’Amoreaux over de ontwikkelingen in Second Life, nadat Linden Lab in 2004 “made the bold decision to grant Second Life residents the rights to their own intellectual property”. Claudia L'Amoreaux laat de creativiteit en spirit zien die is onstaan in the Second Life education community. Ze bespreek open content communities en hun projecten - zoals Sloodle, a Second Life/Moodle mash-up, Wikitecture's 3D wiki. Claudia demonstreert hoe mensen Second Life gebruiken voor onderwijsdoeleinden in universiteiten, organisaties and scholen.

Neen, tenzij”

Leuk, Open Source Software.

Wilco Jansen – Lead Workgroup development Joomla!

We have a particular focus on FOSS (Free and Open Source) and Java programming and tools. Conference sessions emphasize real-world programming, with practical examples and plenty of source code to illustrate concepts and techniques. Many of the conference topics are presented by the architects and designers and lead programmers of the tools they are teaching you to use, while the remainder are taught by people who are using those tools themselves to build comprehensive projects.
